What's the difference between Coaching and Therapy? It's a great question, and the distinction matters.
Therapy is designed to look back in order to heal. It helps people process trauma, resolve old wounds, and understand how the past is showing up in the present. It's essential work — and for many people, it's where the journey begins. I have deep respect for it. I trained in it.
Coaching assumes you are not too broken and have strength, capability, and wisdom - even when life feels like it shattered. Coaching looks at where you are now and where you want to go. It's about figuring out what starting again looks like for you, getting unstuck from the patterns that are keeping you there, and building a path forward that's actually yours.
As your coach, I'm not here to diagnose or treat. I'm here to be a thinking partner - someone who helps you face what is, find the reset, and explore your new normal.
One thing worth knowing: coaching is currently unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a coach. My years of clinical training and mental health practice are at the core of how I work - and to stay current and above reproach, I completed ICF-certified transformation coach training through Dr. Liz Lasky's program. With me you get the depth of a clinician and the forward focus of a coach.
It should also be noted I am not a Health or Wellness coach. However, I do have a wealth of knowledge related to health and chronic illness. I worked for over a decade in the medical field years ago and I worked with countless clients with chronic illnesses in my therapy practice. But, I do not have specific training as a Health coach other than lived experiences.
Coaching may be right for you if:
You're navigating a major life change and need help figuring out what comes next
You've done therapy and feel ready to focus forward rather than back
You have a diagnosis or new "normal" and want support building a life you actually want
You feel stuck - not because something is clinically wrong, but because your old roadmap stopped working
You're a helping professional going through your own crisis and need a peer, not a patient role
Therapy may be a better fit if:
You're experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, or other conditions that need clinical treatment
You're in acute crisis and need immediate support
You need a diagnosis or are working through something that requires a licensed clinician
